Device Description and Benefits
The Honeywell Genesis XP 7680g is a hands-free presentation scanner that reads QR codes and other 2D barcodes. With its IP52-rated housing, modern design, and audible feedback, it’s especially suitable for use in retail, healthcare, or reception environments.
Assembly and Connections
For assembly, correctly place the included O-ring at the end of the cable. After inserting into the device, the ring must no longer be visible – this ensures protection according to IP52. The connection is made via a USB cable.
Device Driver and Connection Types
The Honeywell HSM USB Serial Driver is required for operation. If you've already installed the Device Manager, the driver should be available. The scanner will appear as a virtual COM port in the system’s Device Manager. If the port is not visible, we recommend reinstalling the driver.
Step-by-Step Setup
Check driver installation: Connect the device and look for a COM port entry in the Device Manager.
Install the driver manually (if needed):
- Disconnect the scanner
- Unzip the installation folder
- Run “setup.bat” as administrator
- Reconnect the scanner
Reset the scanner: Scan the provided barcodes in the given order to restore factory settings. Make sure the environment is clean and no other barcodes are visible during scanning.
Clear individual settings
Activate system defaults
Add CR suffix: Scan a special barcode to add a carriage return (Enter) as the suffix character.
Enable USB Serial Emulation: Scan the barcode to switch the scanner to serial emulation mode. The scanner will then appear as a COM port in the system.
Important Notes and Troubleshooting
- If the scanner doesn’t recognize barcodes, try digital templates directly from a screen or printed versions.
- If the scanner doesn’t read on-screen barcodes (e.g. from smartphones), previous configuration may be the cause – print the barcodes instead, or use the attached handout.
- No COM port after connection? Reinstall the driver.
- During configuration scans, make sure there are no other visible barcodes in the scanner’s field of view.
