Do I need a KassenSichV-compliant cash register?
Yes, a KassenSichV-compliant cash register is mandatory if you wish to use the cash register function within your system. The law requires that electronic recording systems be protected by a certified technical security device (TSE) (see § 146a paragraph 1 sentence 1 of the German Tax Code (AO) and the Cash Security Ordinance - KassenSichV).
The Cash Security Ordinance was enacted on September 26, 2017, and mandated the introduction of compliant systems for all cash registers starting January 1, 2020. The transition period, along with any extensions, non-compliance periods, and exemptions, ended on January 1, 2023. This means that, as of 2023, using a non-KassenSichV-compliant cash register is no longer permitted.
As a provider, we adhere to the relevant financial regulations to ensure security for our customers in the event of audits and to avoid jeopardizing software certification by auditors. Therefore, starting with our Basic pricing package, we have included a cash register with a TSE module for you.
How do I set up a KassenSichV-compliant cash register?
Navigate to Settings / Cash Registers to view all registers and your current monthly costs. Here, you can also add a new cash register.
Create a KassenSichV-Compliant Cash Register
Now, create a new cash register under Create Cash Register. Please note that, depending on your Magicline license, the cash register may incur additional fees. Information on these additional costs is provided in the dialog when setting up the new cash register.
Cash Register Name: Compliant Cash Register
Cash Register Description: KassenSichV-Compliant Cash Register

Select Cash Register in Sales
Once the new cash register has been set up, it will be automatically registered with the tax office. The additional costs will be reflected on your monthly invoice.
Go to the Sales module and click on the three-dot menu at the top right. Select Select Cash Register and choose the new KassenSichV-compliant cash register.
Are you unsure if your cash register is KassenSichV-compliant?
If you are unsure whether your cash register is KassenSichV-compliant, you will be informed in the Sales module. If you are using an old cash register that is not yet equipped with a TSE module, a prominent banner will notify you.
The selected cash register is not compliant with the Cash Security Ordinance. Set up a new, KassenSichV-compliant cash register now.
How do we implement the electronic security device (TSE) technically?
We integrate the technical security device (TSE) directly into the cash register system, so no additional hardware is required. As soon as you set up a KassenSichV-compliant cash register, it is automatically equipped with the necessary security infrastructure and registered with the tax office.
How can I obtain the TSE number of the cash register?
To retrieve the TSE serial number, navigate to Finance / Cash register / Exports and generate a TSS-Export. This will create a compressed file (e.g., tss-xxxxxx.tar), which includes all data required by financial authorities.
Contents of the TSS Export
The export file includes:
- A certificate file (with
.pem
or.der
extensions), which should not be opened but forwarded directly to auditors. - The TSE serial number.
- Log information, ensuring that all transactions are securely stored and protected against manipulation.
Importance for Audits
The TSE export is a critical component of the DSFinV-K export, required for financial audits. It allows authorities to verify:
- The integrity of transaction records.
- Compliance with KassenSichV regulations.
- Correct recording of timestamps, sold items, prices, VAT rates, and payment methods.
By regularly creating and securely storing the TSS export, you ensure that your cash register meets all legal requirements.
